Many of you will know that we are ardent supporters of our local community and this year we’ve decided to support our friends Kas and Rik Basra in their Pass It On Leicester campaign to raise awareness and increase the number of people signed up the Anthony Nolan Stem Cell Register. Throughout the month of September the Pass It On Campaign will be running across the Leicestershire County and will be passed on from one business or organisation to another. These organisations will take turns in doing their bit to raise awareness across their sector and communities.
Last year through the work of Kas and Rik Basra, Leicester and Leicestershire became second only to London in stem cell recruitment in the UK. With this Pass It On Campaign the plan is to see if we can exceed the numbers achieved last year which was one thousand registrations.
People from the Black and Asian groups are underrepresented on the stem cell register so we encouraging everyone, but especially these ethnic groups to sign up and get involved. Registration takes only a few minutes and can save a life.
To find out more about the campaign follow this link to the The Rik Basra Leukaemia Campaign website, where you can also learn more about Rik and his own challenge with leukaemia.
Open Mind is proud to be one of the many supporter of the campaign and we’re doing our bit to help the cause.
Sandra Pollock took part in a fun activity with Rupal Rajani of BBC Radio Leicester just this week. The fun activity was part of Rupal’s Chatty Women programme when she was joined by Elaine Pantling, Femi Latif and Sandra Pollock.
The fun activity took the form of an egg and spoon race between a BBC Radio Leicester team and the Chatty women, Elaine, Femi and Sandra. We were robbed. Lol.
On Saturday 26th September Sandra and Mike will also be taking part in a walk on the Monsal Trail in the Peak District, to raise money for charity; the Rik Basra Campaign is one of those charities to benefit.
If you’d like to sponsor Sandra and Mike please do get in touch or using this link to donate to the Monsal Walk , but do let us know as this is a team sport and competition for teams to raise the most is on.
If you would like to register on the Stem Cell Register you can do this by visiting Wot Space run by Tina Barton. Wot SPACE, 3 Shire Lane, Leicester, LE1 4AN.
